El premio, compartido con el Dr. Surinder K. Vasal de la India, se debi\u00f3 a que las investigaciones de los dos permitieron producir el llamado &#8220;ma\u00edz de calidad prote\u00ednica&#8221;, poseedor de una cantidad doble de prote\u00edna y grano que el com\u00fan.
